Kinja'd!!!

Finally! With just two trips to the county clerks office I managed to snag a plate, and a title coming in the mail. As of right now, it’s been cleaned up, had the wheels powder coated blaaaaack, and gotten new Kenda scooter tires, a piranha 140cc motor, a side pipe, BMX style bars, and I attempted a skateboard seat. It Looked good, but it was utterly unrideable. Let’s just say, too much vibration.

Hopefully by this weekend I’ll be getting new piggyback rear shocks in gold and black, a full compliment of LED based lighting, and a set of gold anodized inverted forks with a hydraulic disk brake. My tiny little pseudo-grom is finally getting rideable!

Awesome!

Growing up we had one of these. My brother bought it from a teacher of his for $20 or $25. $5-10 in parts later, it was up and running again. It was almost impossible to run out of gas with it.

The 140cc kinda makes the fuel economy.... drop. A lot. I mean I’m sure it’s still good, but yeah it suffers. I’ve been told about 35 miles on a tank. I also wish I could’ve gotten mine for 20 dollars.

I’m a member of a vintage Jap bike FB page. Good thing you found a beater to play with for small money. People are spending waaayy too much on these things. Dunno if they actually trade hands at $4500- but Iv’e seen it asked. I sold a absolute ly mint 1973 one for a neighbor as a favor on Ebay 10 years ago-and it got $2500!

So, I originally paid 500 for the base bike in kinda rough, but running shape. And I refuse to add up the total exactly for my own sanity, but my goal for the whole project was a half price grom. So somewhere around the 1500 mark, and I think I’m on track for that. I t’s roadworthy at this point, and will be even more when the rest of the parts arrive. The stock suspension is pretty well blown which makes it a bit sketchy to sustain speed on.

I like the idea of a ‘resto-mod! Cheaper that a full blown restoration and a whole bunch more usable!

Exactly. I’m updating every driving component to a modern one, more power, more stopping, better lights, better everything, but the one thing I’m not gonna touch is the main body itself. I wiped it down with simple green, and that’s it. The petina is too perfect on it to repaint it or redo it in any way.
